Grammy-award winning Bluegrass Legend Peter Rowan to Headline December 6th Ipreo Raleigh Winterfest Celebration

Celebration to feature distinguished bluegrass recording artist and new festivities

RALEIGH, NC (November 3, 2014) – The Ipreo Raleigh Winterfest Celebration will be held on Saturday, December 6 from 3 pm-10 pm on Fayetteville Street in Downtown Raleigh. The Downtown Raleigh Alliance (DRA) is excited to announce that this year’s main stage entertainment will be headlined by Peter Rowan, a Grammy-award winner and six-time Grammy nominee with a career spanning over five decades. Each year, the Downtown Raleigh Alliance partners with the City of Raleigh to produce the free community-wide event to continue its holiday tradition, creating memorable experiences for downtown visitors.

The Ipreo Raleigh Winterfest Celebration is a fun-filled, interactive experience featuring a variety of outdoor festivities for people of all ages, including downtown’s beloved tradition of the official Mayor’s holiday tree lighting, outdoor ice rink, Santa’s Village, the Ferris Wheel, Carousel, sledding hill, and horse-drawn carriage rides. During the event, there will be exciting live performances including this year's headliner, singer-songwriter Peter Rowan, and other blue-grass bands, Gasoline Stove, Lefty Williams Band, Mac & Juice Quartet, and The Outliers. Back by popular demand, the beer and wine garden returns as the winter social for adults, featuring craft beer, acoustic music, and cornhole games, a new addition.

To enhance the holiday experience, this year’s event will feature the new and exciting Taste of Downtown and Gingerbread House Competition. The Taste of Downtown provides an opportunity for festival goers to taste and sample incredible cuisine from a variety of the downtown Raleigh’s esteemed eateries. As a sweet treat, the event will host a Gingerbread House Tent featuring unique candied creations made by local gingerbread house enthusiasts and bakers alike. The public will be able to vote for their top three favorites.

The Ipreo Raleigh Winterfest ice skating rink will open early again this year to downtown Raleigh visitors on Friday, November 22, 2014 and will remain open until Friday, February 1, 2014
