Cambridge, Mass. - Lesley University, a leader in teacher education for nearly 100 years, is offering graduate education programs at the Raleigh Business and Technology Center, downtown Raleigh, NC. The university offers graduate programs at 150 sites in 23 states and across the country through cohort and online programs, and is one of the largest providers of Master’s level professional development for classroom teachers in the nation.
Lesley’s programs take advantage of a weekend delivery cohort model, incorporating research-based approaches to effective professional development and graduate study. Students attend classes in their home communities with the same group of colleagues from the beginning of their degree to its completion. Each 3-credit course is scheduled around two weekends, separated by two to four weeks. Course content and classroom hours are equivalent to Lesley’s on-campus offerings in Massachusetts —but offered in a format designed to appeal to working educators.
Professors from Lesley University will travel to Raleigh, as they do nationwide, to provide the same level of high quality instruction and student access to faculty as found on Lesley’s Cambridge campus.
“We’re excited to be able to offer our programs in Raleigh,” said Lesley University President Joseph Moore. “Lesley’s unique community-based cohort model offers quality, colleagueship, and convenience—and the knowledge and skills teachers need.”
"Students apply what they learn in the weekend model directly in their own classrooms during the week, it’s a true integration of theory and practice that ensures relevance" said Mario Borunda, Dean of the Lesley University School of Education. “Our students are highly motivated to become better teachers, and our faculty is comprised of leaders in the field who have real classroom experience. Their shared enthusiasm creates learning communities that support best practice.”
Degree options offered in the Raleigh/Durham area include: M.Ed. in Technology in Education (K-12), M.Ed. in Integrated Teaching Through the Arts (K-6), and M.Ed. in Literacy (K-6). Lesley University is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, one of the six regional accrediting institutions in the United States.
