| Welcome
to Downtown Raleigh’s New Electronic Newsletter
We
are very excited to bring you the first bi-monthly electronic newsletter
for Downtown Raleigh. The newsletter is designed to inform and connect
you to what is happening in your downtown neighborhood.
Tips to use this newsletter:
The table of contents sidebar can take you directly to the story
that you are interested in reading; or if you prefer, you can scroll
down throughout the entire newsletter. At the bottom of each story
is a
link which will take you to the table of contents. The Downtown
Raleigh website is currently being redesigned. We are
also making the newsletter user interactive to coordinate with the
new website; as your pointer glides across the icons of the different
districts in the header of the newsletter, you will be able to link
to districts information when those sections of the website have
been completed.
If
you have any changes for your e-mail contact information or want
to opt out of receiving the newsletter, please e-mail info@downtownraleigh.org.
I hope you enjoy this newsletter.

This
traveling exhibition from COPIA: The Center for Food, Wine and the
Arts presents unique portrait of the world’s people through
stunning photographs which feature each family with a week’s
worth of food. The exhibit runs through Sunday, June 4,
2006 at Exploris.
From Ecuador to Greenland, Chad to China, Egypt to Mongolia, visitors
will discover the impact of globalization on the world’s diets.
For the first time in the history of our planet, there are more
people who are overfed than underfed. And it has changed mealtime
around the world. Whether it’s rising affluence that causes
a shift from grains to meat (and pizza) or the influence of travelers,
immigrants, and refugees who bring their own foods to foreign lands,
new culinary tastes, and consumption patterns are the hallmarks
of change in how and what the world eats . . .right down to our
own dinner tables.
Internationally renowned photojournalist Peter Menzel, in collaboration
with writer Faith D’Aluisio, traveled to 24 countries to portray
30 different families and 600 meals in photographs and words.
