Downtown Raleigh will have a pink aura about it beginning Friday, June 5 and leading up to the NC Triangle Race for the Cure® on Saturday, June 13.
In support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® NC Triangle Affiliate, which moved its office to 133 Fayetteville Street earlier this year, numerous businesses and agencies are participating in the inaugural “Go Pink for the Cure” celebration.
From the Progress Center for the Performing Arts to the State Capitol, and other parts of Raleigh, you’ll notice pink lights, pink ribbons, pink menu items, and even a pinked-out Sir Walter Raleigh statue. The Shimmer Wall will also go pink.
Go Pink for the Cure will begin on Friday, June 5, with Komen NC Triangle hosting a stop at The Fish Market Student Gallery.
The gallery will feature photographer Curtis Brown’s Weight of the Ribbon, which reflects the journeys of breast cancer victims in their battles against the disease. Selected dancers from the Carolina Ballet “translate the photographer’s concept into visual form through distinct expression and movement.”
Komen’s First Friday event will also offer a station where visitors can get information on how to register for the Komen NC Triangle Race for the Cure on Saturday, June 13, which is the largest foot-race in North Carolina—attracting more than 24,000 walkers, runners and spectators in 2008.
