Title: LEED for Marketers and Business Developers

Description: Our first lunch program will give attendees an opportunity to learn more about LEED from a marketing perspective, presented by Chris Brasier, AIA, LEED AP of SmithGroup. There are many things that we all should know when marketing our LEED related services and talking with clients. Join us to hear Chris speak about new LEED initiatives, how to avoid “green washing” and the value of LEED association.

Chris Brasier, AIA, LEED AP is Vice President and Office Director for SmithGroup in Durham, North Carolina. Chris’ leadership responsibilities include directing the office’s business development and management activities as well as providing design and management expertise for institutional and corporate clients. Most recently, Chris and his colleagues at SmithGroup collaborated with Duke University and the Pratt School of Engineering on the first LEED Platinum residence hall, the Home Depot Smart Home.

Chris also serves as an adjunct professor for Duke University's Pratt School of Engineering where he serves as Director of Architectural Engineering Certificate Program. Over the past few years, Chris has collaborated with a scientist and engineering colleague to link first principles of science to sustainable design and engineering. The content of this collaboration has led to the creation of a course as a part of the freshman Focus Program at Duke University and a book published by John Wiley and Sons, Sustainable Design: the Science of Sustainability and Green Engineering. The course encourages students to explore beyond the traditional “cook book” solutions to sustainable design challenges and seek a more complete understanding of the science and engineering principles common to successful sustainable design strategies.

In addition to Environmental Design and Architecture degrees from North Carolina State University, Chris earned a MBA from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University.
