This heart-wrenching tale takes place in Nagasaki, Japan, where a gentle young geisha, known by her friends as "Butterfly," forsakes her heritage and tradition by choosing to love and marry an American Lieutenant, with tragic consequences.
The Opera Company of North Carolina concludes their journey through Italian opera with the world’s most famous opera. Puccini’s Madama Butterfly, written approximately 70 years after Lucia and 120 years after Figaro. This intense drama is grand opera at its finest and will be extravagantly staged in Memorial Auditorium.
