On display at Block Gallery from December 1, 2011 to January 23, 2012 is the 9th annual National Arts Program® (NAP) exhibit, co-sponsored by the Raleigh Arts Commission, the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County and The National Arts Program Foundation of Malvern, Pennsylvania. NAP showcases artwork by City of Raleigh and Wake County employees and their families.
An opening reception will take place Thursday, Dec. 1, 5-7 p.m. at Block Gallery, with music by Christy Smith. The Raleigh Arts Commission and the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County are thrilled to announce that special guest, Jackie J. Szafara, Executive Director of the National Arts Program®, will be attending this year’s reception and will be announcing this year’s winners of the National Arts Program exhibition.
Airing concurrently with the National Arts Program exhibition at Block Gallery, are selected animations created by high school participants in the Contemporary Art Museum (CAM Raleigh) 2011 summer programs and New Sense Studio outreach partnership at Block2 Street Video Series, located in the window of Urban Design Center, 133 Fayetteville Street. This compilation showcases a range of media and stop-motion techniques which were completed primarily in the span of one day. Block2 videos are curated by Neill Prewitt and air daily, dusk to 3 a.m.
