DHIC, Inc. will host a reception on Friday, December 4th, from 6 – 8 PM in the historic Prairie Building, at 113 S. Wilmington Street. On that night, DHIC, Inc. will celebrate a new Prairie Building historical exhibit in the storefront window. Through graphics, old photographs and documents, the exhibit tells the story of the building over the past 138 years. Research for this exhibit was completed by architectural historian Ruth Little.

Designed in the 1870s by prominent local architect Joseph P. Prairie, the building is located in the Moore Square historic district at 113 S. Wilmington Street. DHIC, Inc., a nonprofit developer of affordable housing based in Raleigh, purchased and renovated the Prairie Building in 2000 with financial assistance provided by the City of Raleigh and Progress Energy. The street level contains the DHIC office and Homeownership Center with the second and third floors containing eleven affordable apartments.
