Second Empire 5k

Second Empire Restaurant and Tavern is proud to present the 10th Annual Second Empire 5K Classic – one of the fastest 5K courses in the Triangle area.

Part of the 2010 Grand Prix Spring Series, The race date will be held Sunday, May 2, 2010 at 2:00 PM.  The event will once again feature the CU Fitness Center Pump ‘n Run Competition.

The race will be celebrating adoption this year with proceeds benefiting NC Hopeful Parents. The mission of Hopeful Parents is to support, educate, and celebrate with members of the adoption triad. More specifically: to assist prospective adoptive parents in preparing to adopt, to provide community support for adoptive families and to honor birth families through charity.

This year’s event will include competitive and non-competitive 5Ks, a 1 mile fun run, as well as a kids dash. There will also be an expo area to learn more about adoption and supporting organizations.


Associated Street Closures:
5K Race – Start time will be 2 pm
The runners will assemble on Hillsborough Street in front of the Second Empire Restaurant (300 block).
The group will proceed east on Hillsborough Street to Salisbury Street, proceed south on Salisbury Street to Morgan Street, proceed east on Morgan Street to Wilmington Street, proceed north on Wilmington Street to Edenton Street, proceed west on Edenton Street to Salisbury Street, proceed south on Salisbury Street to Hillsborough Street, proceed west on Hillsborough Street to Pullen road where the runners will turn around on Hillsborough Street and proceed east on Hillsborough Street back to the start/finish line.
100 Yard Kid’s Dash – Start time will be 3 pm
The kid’s dash will be one block long. The kids will walk one block west on Hillsborough and then run back to the finish line.

1 Mile Run/Walk – Start time will be 3:05 pm
The runners will assemble on Hillsborough Street in front of the Second Empire Restaurant (300 block) and run west on Hillsborough Street to the entrance of St. Mary’s School. They will turn around in front of the school and run back on Hillsborough Street to the start/finish line.
