Gretchen Morrissey presents Seed + Pollen + Nectar, a collection of hand-rendered patterns and multi-plate prints exploring pollination mechanisms. Critically important to the welfare of the terrestrial ecosystems, many pollinators are endangered, especially due to habitat destruction and the use of chemical pesticides.
Morrissey is particularly interested in utilizing techniques and processes involving alternative printing technologies that are safe to the artist and the environment, using water-based inks and solar plate etching.
Morrissey holds a Master of Science degree in Textile Design and Materials Technology from Philadelphia University. After graduating she served on the Textile Design Faculty at Philadelphia University and Moore College of Art and Design in Philadelphia where she coordinated studies for traditional hand-printed textile design and alternative techniques in digital textile design. Currently, Morrissey is a full time studio artist/designer living in Durham, NC, with specific interests in cross-disciplinary collaboration with textile and printmaking techniques and application. Morrissey’s work has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the US and is in numerous private collections internationally.
