Susan Soper Moments: A Lithographic Journey
Location: Artspace
Date: Friday March 7, 2008 - Saturday March 29, 2008
Time: Opening Exhibit on Friday, March 7 (10 am-10 pm)
Susan Soper presents an exhibition of both traditional stone lithographs as well as newer, non-traditional lithography (waterless lithographs). Soper chooses to work in lithography because of its connection with drawing as well as because of the unique surface quality of the final images. Images drawn on stone have a distinct texture that can only be created with that medium. In contract, images drawn on aluminum plates in the waterless lithographic process, have a smoother, sharper line quality. Soper builds many layers of ink, creating painterly prints. For her primary subject matter, she focuses on people, whether in solitude or in groups, in timeless moments. Susan Soper earned a BS in Graphic Design and a minor in Art Therapy from the State University College at Buffalo, NY. For the next twenty years Soper lived with her family in Riverton, WY. It was there that she was introduced to lithography in 1988. Further education included the Tamarind Institute summer lithography program and Frogmans Print and Paper workshops in South Dakota. In 2003, Soper moved to Clayton, NC, with her family. She was juried into the Artspace Artists Association in 2006 and currently maintains Studio 102 at Artspace. Cost: Free
