Apple Sauce Recipes:

What you’ll need:

Four pounds of apples, quartered

1 cup of water

3 tablespoons of sugar

Pinch of salt

2 tablespoons of butter

1 sprig rosemary (optional)

1 sage leaf (optional)

1 thyme sprig (optional)

¼ cup of brown sugar (optional)

6 allspice berries (optional)

1 cinnamon stick (optional)

1 ½ teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice


Simmer the apples in the water with sugar and salt.  Leave the pot partially covered.  Cook about 25-30 minutes until soft.  Pass the apples through a food mill and mix in the butter.

If you want herbed applesauce add the rosemary, sage, and thyme to the pot before cooking.

If you want spiced applesauce replace the sugar with brown sugar, and add the allspice, cinnamon stick, and pumpkin pie spice to the pot before cooking.  Remove the cinnamon stick before milling.
