May 30 - Wellness Wednesday and EBT Launch Party

On the last Wednesday of each month shoppers can enjoy tips and educational programming focused on health and wellness! Join us for our first Wellness Wednesday on May 30th! This market day will include samples from Gravy chef Brent Hopkins, a Rex Healthcare wellness tent, raffles, live music, and a special press conference to celebrate the lauch of our EBT program that allows community members participating in food assistance programs to use their benefits at the market! As part of Wellness Wednesdays, we welcome Farmer Foodshare to the Raleigh Downtown Farmers Market! the non-profit Farmer Foodshare will be collecting fresh produce and monetary donations to be distributed to Inter-faith Food Shuttle. Buy a little extra produce our bring a little extra cash on these days to help us provide fresh foods to our local food-insecure communities!

  • July 11-  Tomato Festival:  Come out to sample a wide variety of flavorful heirloom tomatoes!
  • August 1 - Local Cheese Celebration: We are joining force with the American Cheese Society for day of cheesy goodness! The day will feature a wide selection of the area's finest goat and cow cheese producers as well as cheesy dishes prepared by the area's chefs! 
  • October 3 - Honey Buzztival: A celebration of bees and all things honey!

 

 

 

Past News from the 2011 Season

  • We've got cooler bags for sale at the market information booth for just $3! They keep items cold for up to 3 hours and can hold 30 lbs! Use these to keep your purchase cool while you are at the office or out and about after market.

October 5: Honey Buzztival

  • Join us for this sweet celebration of bees and all things honey! The market will be buzzing with honey samples, cooking demos, an observation hive, recipes, and an abundance of honey-related products! BEE there for live music by Russ Thompson featuring Q Jones, a Kids’ Bee Bash, and much more!

September 21: Wilco/Farmer Foodshare Challenge

  • The Raleigh Downtown Farmers Market is participating in the Farmer Foodshare Challenge at market on Wednesday, Sept 21! We will be accepting fresh produce and monetary donations at market to be distributed to food-insecure community members by Inter-faith Food Shuttle.

  • The rock band Wilco is joining forces for this event, and we will raffle off tickets for their September 27th show at the Raleigh Amphitheatre and have free Wilco tote bags!  Ten farmers markets and multiple local businesses are participating in the Farmer Fooshare Challenge with the collective goal of donating over one TON of food by the Wilco show on Sept 27!

August 24: A Taste of Restaurant Week

  • Taste what happens when nine chefs from downtown Raleigh restaurants pair with local farmers! For more details check here.

August 10: Celebrate National Farmers Market Week!

  • Celebrate local farmers coming together with their harvest to feed our local community during National Farmers Market Week! Stop by the information booth at market for samples of fruits and veggies from our farmers, produce tips, and recipes. Special guest Tarheel Foodie will be preparing and sampling some of her favorite eggplant recipes, and she will be ready to answer all your questions on cooking with local produce! Also, the North Carolina Opera will be performing at market as part of their "Opera About Town" series. Don't miss this unique market treat at 12:45pm.

 August 3: Cooking Demo with "Wildly Affordable Organic" author Linda Watson

  • Linda Watson, author of "Wildly Affordable Organic," will join us at market for a cooking demo. Come get a taste of Spicy Peanut Noodles with Summer Vegetables, a recipe from her new book, and bring your questions about cooking healthful, seasonal meals on a budget.
