Pig Pickin’ Kickoff Celebration has been moved to Wednesday, May 7, 2014

*Due to inclement weather conditions, the Pig Pickin' Kickoff has moved from its April 30th date to next Wednesday, May 7th. 

Celebrate the opening of the 2014 Raleigh Downtown Farmers Market at the Pig Pickin' Kickoff, Wednesday, May 7, from 10 am-2 pm at City Plaza, 400 block of Fayetteville St. Enjoy delicious eastern North Carolina barbecue from The Pit BBQ, a local craft beer tasting from Crank Arm Brewing Co. (a new event feature) and connect with North Carolina's highest quality growers and food artisans.

Event festivities include: 

SHOP: Revel at the sight of a vast quantity of local fresh foods from over 30 vendors, including fruits and vegetables, poultry, herbs, eggs, cheese, baked goods, vegan items, and gluten-free products. New vendors include: Four Legs Barking, Spruill Bros. Pastured Meats, Strong Arm Bakery Co., and Two Chicks Farm. Event guest vendors include GerDan Chocolates and Huntington Kitchen.

EAT: Indulge in a true eastern North Carolina pig-pickin' from The Pit BBQ, serving famous authentic pulled pork sandwiches from their food truck (available for $5). In addition, local lunch options will be available from Buku and Kimbap.

REFRESH: Taste local craft beers from Crank Arm Brewing Co.

MUSIC: Enjoy live music from bluegrass/rock band The Outliers.

KICKOFF: To officially inaugurate the new season, a press conference will be held at 12 noon with a presentation from Dr. Ramon Rojano, the Director of Wake County Human Services for Public Health and Social Services, Eugene Weeks, City Councilman and Bo Dempster, DRA Board representative.
