Fayetteville St
Raleigh, NC 27601
This is a public-private project designed to transform the 500 block of Fayetteville Street into a premiere cultural and social public place, welcoming concerts, markets, parades and various events and activities.
The City of Raleigh is investing $14.8 million for the construction of the public space. Design elements will include: flexible seating, an interactive water fountain, planters and trees, and four 55-foot light towers (lower designs integrate LED lights, stainless steel oak leaves and a hidden area that will contain power/electrical panels that are to be used for various plaza events). The project also contains bollards throughout the plaza to control traffic.
And for the private-sector part of the project, The Simpson Organization is developing four 900 sq. ft. retail pavilions which are available for lease.
City Plaza is a prime location within one block of the recently completed Raleigh Convention Center, Raleigh Marriott City Center, and the Progress Energy Center for the Performing Arts. Numerous events will be programmed year-round for the benefit of thousands of employees, visitors, and residents.
A target opening date is scheduled for late October 2009.
