The City of Raleigh and Wake County completed the Raleigh Convention Center in early Fall 2008. The total investment was $235,000,000. The building is 500,000 sq. ft. including three levels.
The main Exhibit Hall is 150,000 sq. ft.
The pedestrian-friendly complex occupies one, full city block and was constructed with green building standards. It welcomes thousands of visitors each month with expansive sidewalks, street lighting, canopies, and multiple entrances. The main entrance is organized around a long, spacious lobby overlooking a plaza which features a grand stairway, fountains, special meeting rooms and indoor/outdoor retail. Two concourses extend from the lobby to connect all levels of the building. Stone, brick and gracious amounts of glass windows were used in building construction. Along the western exterior is a 9,284 sq. ft. L.E.D. “shimmer wall” created and donated by CREE, Inc.
