Pirate Makes Appearance During Museum Program

Calling all buccaneers ages 5 to 8! Meet a pirate and challenge him to a sword fight. Learn about the adventures of Blackbeard and Anne Bonney, and make a seaworthy craft during the program Pirates Ahoy! at the N.C. Museum of History on Saturday, July 21, at 10 a.m.  [Please note July 13 registration date.]

Kids can participate in solo sword “fights” with pirate reenactor Wes Caudill. In these duels, they will use swords they make from Funnoodles® (foam pool toys that resemble noodles). Caudill, a fencing instructor at NBS Gym in Raleigh, is known for his dramatic presentations of pirate sword fighting.

Register by Friday, July 13, to catch this morning of seafaring, swashbuckling fun. Enrollment fees are $8 per person and $6 for N.C. Museum of History Associates members. To register, call 919-807-7992. An adult must accompany the child. Registration is limited to 20 children, so call now to reserve a spot. Weekend parking is free.

If you missed the museum’s popular summer camp Pirates, Ships and Lighthouses, this is your chance to have fun as you separate pirate fact and fiction. While you’re at the museum, see a pewter plate and other artifacts from the wreck believed to be Queen Anne’s Revenge, Blackbeard’s flagship, in the exhibit From the Museum’s Attic.

For more information about the museum, call 919-807-7900 or check out the museum’s Web site at ncmuseumofhistory.org.
