Stewart Announces Corporate Relocation to Downtown Raleigh

Stewart Engineering, Inc., a 135-person consulting engineering firm, announced today that it will relocate its corporate office to Downtown Raleigh within 18 months. The move will bring approximately 100 employees to the center city.

Raleigh Mayor Charles Meeker announced the move at a press conference in his office this morning, noting that Stewart was the fourth firm this year to choose downtown for its corporate headquarters. Other firms include Capital Bank, Headway, and Intervolve.

"We truly believe that being downtown enhances the quality of life for our employees. The City created a powerful incentive when they decided to invest in downtown, opening Fayetteville Street and developing the Convention Center," said Willy E. Stewart, PE, the firm's president and founder. "Many of our clients are here and we want to be part of the excitement and momentum."

Stewart opened a branch office in downtown Raleigh earlier this year. Recently, the Town of Morrisville expressed interest in purchasing Stewart's current corporate office, which is located near Town Hall and the Police Station in Morrisville. This would allow the Town to consolidate its operations in a nearby facility.

The firm does not yet have a site selected in downtown, although Stewart noted that approximately 25,000 to 30,000 square feet will be needed. "The search starts today," Stewart said.

Stewart focuses on structural engineering, site/civil engineering, transportation engineering, and special inspections. It has five offices in the Carolinas - Morrisville, Downtown Raleigh, Wilmington, and Charlotte, NC, and Gaffney, SC. Clients include area architects, private developers, contractors, universities, medical facilities, municipalities, public school systems, and the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
