Volunteers Needed for First Night

IT’S NOT TOO EARLY TO VOLUNTEER FOR FIRST NIGHT RALEIGH!

More than 500 volunteers are needed for First Night Raleigh 2007, the region’s largest New Year's Eve celebration of the arts and community.

Sign up for yourself, with friends, or the whole family. Volunteering at First Night is a fun and rewarding way to celebrate New Year's Eve together. Most shifts last between 2 and 3 hours. You'll receive a FREE admission button for helping out. To sign up, view job descriptions, or learn more about making First Night happen, visit <http://www.firstnightraleigh.com> and click on “Volunteering” in the middle at the bottom of the page.

Or contact Katie Gailes, Artsplosure’s Volunteer Coordinator, at
volunteer@artsplosure.org or by calling 919-832-8699 during regular business hours.

First Night Raleigh, North Carolina’s premier New Year’s Eve celebration of art and community, will return to the new, revitalized Fayetteville Street on December 31st.

Imagine this. As you walk down Fayetteville Street you will walk through time with each block featuring costumes and music and art from decades past. Beginning with the 1970’s, when the street was closed to traffic, through 2006 you can dance and eat and enjoy your way through more than 30 years of fun. Whether it’s the “Boy Band” and Macarena dancing from the 1990s in the 300 block or the popular cartoons, break dancing, and a Rubik’s cube challenge from the 1980s in the next block. The “walk through time” will be fun for all – whether you are too young to remember the decade or not!

We will also present those programs our audience looks forward to each year: The early afternoon Children’s Celebration at the Museums of History and Natural Sciences, the popular People’s Procession led by the giant puppet Rhea, early and late evening outdoor fireworks, the “Raleigh Acorn Drop,” and a season’s worth of performances in one night in 27 downtown locations. We have got some amazing art to sample, including African and Ballroom dance, Salsa, Bluegrass, Jazz, Soul, Rock, Blues, improvisational comedy, and more.
