Daughter of a Basque father and American mother, she grew up in both Florida and Spain, and chose art as a career at an early age. Lacambra Shubert studied painting, drawing and printmaking at Southern Methodist University, where she received her B.F.A. in 1986. After studying painting at Academie Port Royal in Paris, France, for one year, she returned to the United States, where she began exhibiting in solo and group shows across the country.
