LOCATION: Artspace - 201 E Davie St

2 DAY WORKSHOP - Sat & Sun, Feb 24 + 25 10:00am-4:00pm One of the unique qualities of leather is that it is possible to mold and emboss it with a little moisture and pressure. In this workshop we will emboss leather for softcover notebooks by making printing plates from found objects and running them through an etching press.* We will be using pre-made text blocks to save time for creating our printing plates and for paring and working with the leather. *If you prefer to carve a plate in linoleum or wood ahead of time to bring to the workshop, please contact the instructor for more details. CELINE LOMBARDI - studied bookbinding at the North Bennet Street School in Boston, MA, and also in private study with Monique Lallier in Greensboro, NC and Mark Cockram in London, UK. She worked in binderies in New York City for some years before starting her own practice. Currently she is a core bookbinding instructor at the Center for Book Arts in Manhattan; is the Chair of the New York chapter of the Guild of Book Workers; and has her own private studio in Brooklyn, NY. Her fine bindings have been exhibited in Boston, Chicago, London and New York. Her artist books and fine bindings are in rare book collections of libraries across the country.
